Copper Spike Railroad Day Out with Thomas in Arizona
The Colorado Railroad Museum is located in Golden, Colorado situated on some 15 acres near Clear Creek flows between North and South Table Mountains. Established in 1959 during the states pioneering narrow gauge mountain railroads, the museum showcases a large collection of narrow gauge rolling stock. This is the only surviving standard gauge steam locomotive from the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad.
The mission of the Colorado Railroad Museum is to preserve the interest in railroads and railroading history. This is accomplished by preserving, acquiring and displaying to the general public, items including railroad equipment, photographs, books, paper records, art work showcasing Rocky Mountain area railroads. There is an extensive history covered from the period of 1860 to the present.
Colorado Railroad Museum offers special events like a Day Out with Thomas, Steam Up Days, German Heritage Festival, Galloping Goose Rides, Buffalo Bill Wild West Days, and Colorado Wine & Music Train. Children can take a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine, meet Sir Tophamm Hatt and enjoy activities including storytelling, music and more.

Copper Spike Railroad is located in Globe Arizona and the legend has it that the sphere shaped silver nugget which resembles the Globe is how it got its name. Prospectors came to the area as far back as 1870 with the prospect of getting rich from silver mines. As mining of silver expanded in the area, so did its population expand just as quickly. With its popularity a new county in Arizona was born and by 1881 Globe was born into Gila County. With the saturation of silver Globe turned to its next resource, copper mining. The rest is history.
With much effort, restoration and volunteerism Historic Globe Main Street blossomed from the beginning with the freight office in 2005. After lobbying they won state preservation and were awarded with economic awards relative to restructuring. Copper Spike Railroad and its surrounding area is host to wonderful activities for the entire family.
Activities include the Apache Gold Casino Resort, Cobre Valley Center for Arts, Tribal dances and cultural presentations, Mining history and the Besh Ba Gowah Archaeological Park. Not to mention riding the rail on the Copper Spike Railroad in one of their famous Dome Cars. These dome cars are full length and were built in 1954 for the Santa Fe Railway for use in long distance trains for those who wanted to ride in luxury.
Copper Spike Railroad is also host to a Day Out with Thomas which is held annually.
